ABU DHABI PUBLIC ART BIENNIAL
An Offer from the Desert - Sound Installation

Spencer was invited along with ten other  United Arab Emirates based artists  by the Artist Kabir Mohanty  to record, compose and produce memories in the form of sound compositions which are relevant to our experiences of living in the United Arab Emirates.

Mohanty was commissioned to develop the Project for the Abu Dhabi Public Art Biennial 2024/2025 which is an outdoor Installation  of 27 “Genelec” speakers installed in Umm Al Emarat park playing threads of individual artists and ambient sounds on each speaker.

.The Abu Dhabi Public Art Biennial  consists of 70 international and UAE-based artists creating site-specific installations in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain under the Biennial theme, Public Matter including an Installation  by Allora and Calzadilla and Khalil Rabah.

Spencer  produced two sonic compositions "Please Leave in Silence" and "The Dust of the Forgotten"that were broadcast on 2 of the 28 speakers in the sound Installation .

Spencer also had a support role in the installation and care of the work. In July 2024 Spencer spent a week as a guide and assistant to Mohanty in “The Empty Quarter Desert” in the UAE recording ambient sounds of the desert that were also included in the Installation. 

The Video below  "The Dust of the Forgotten" is Spencer Sonic Composition included  in the Installation. Spencer produced the Short Film to accompany the Sonic composition outside of the  project.
